Read and Become Stronger
Project
As the International Association of Women in Sustainable Development (USKD), the “READ AND GET STRONG” Project, which we will carry out to empower girls, raise awareness in boys and transform our society in terms of equality, started on October 11, International Day of the Girl Child, with our children at the İzmir Governorship Karşıyaka Children's Houses Site Directorate of the Republic of Turkey...
Today, education is the right of every individual, whether male or female. Although the concept of education is important for everyone, the education of girls is of greater importance. Because there are many obstacles to girls' access to education, such as poverty, gender discrimination, cultural norms and early marriages.
The “READ AND GET STRONG” project aims to empower girls for a sustainable world, and is designed to ensure that both girls and boys are not limited by the wrong patterns imposed by social norms and can act freely, learning this from an early age.
The project includes various trainings, creative drama games, cultural trips, role model studies, as well as parental awareness programs to ensure that boys are not superior to girls, that both genders are equal and that they should respect each other.
Painting and Sculpture Museum Tour
With the support of İzmir Painting and Sculpture Museum Director Ayşe Füruzan Caman, our advisor Meltem Kolday, and Dokuz Eylül University Platform Up youth, we realized the first step of our “Let It Become Stronger by Reading” project with very intense emotions.
We examined the works of art together with our precious girls at İzmir Painting and Sculpture Museum, we were enriched and renewed with the unique perspectives of our beautiful girls… We renewed our hope for our future…
We will not share any visuals from this special day due to our respect for all the rights of our children.
We are grateful to all our children for the tremendous emotions they have given us.
In memory of this beautiful day, we are also excited for the letters they will write to us at our next meeting.

Ceramic Workshop Event
As the International Association of Women in Sustainable Development; with the organization of the Social Responsibility Commission, within the scope of our “Let Them Read and Become Stronger” Project, we held a ceramic workshop event at Bugu Art Space with our children under protection at the Karşıyaka Children’s Homes Site Directorate of the İzmir Governorship of the Republic of Turkey, in order to celebrate April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.
The excitement and happiness in our children’s eyes throughout the event showed us once again how meaningful our project was. The joy they experienced when they met with colors, shapes and imagination was indescribable. Laughing, producing and sharing this special day with them was an unforgettable experience for all of us.
